The Volterra Project Trio is an international and intergenerational guitar ensemble born under the sun of the Tuscan hills, during the 2017 edition of the Volterra Project Guitar Summer Institute. At the heart of the trio lies the philosophy of the Summer Institute as conceived by Antigoni: a holistic approach to guitar playing and a spirit of sharing rather than competing. Its aim is to reimagine the classical guitar trio through a unique artistic vision drawing on the heterogeneous backgrounds of its members, as they work together intensively on their own compositions and arrangements that range from European impressionism to popular Mediterranean melodies and film music. With their strong affinity as musicians and friends – all now faculty members of the Volterra Project – they breathe new life into the old idea of the guitar as an orchestra in microcosm. Intimate and elegant, their playing is a constant exploration of the sounds, dynamics and colors that make the guitar unique. The VP trio has performed in many concerts across Europe and on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, including a digital concert for the 2021 Boston Guitar festival and a live performance during the 50th GFA Convention in New York City in June 2023. In February 2022, the Trio realized its first full album Medio Siglo, a unique recording project dedicated to the sound and artistry of master luthier José Luis Romanillos, including the legendary last four guitars of the late maestro.
